Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) offers its member companies a qualified and well-tested business model that simplifies the initial process of establishing a presence in the Indian market.

From our office based in the heart of Mumbai DI offers your company a secure platform from which you can gradually build your experiences and test the rapidly growing Indian market. The Indian economy is among the fastest growing in the world. At the same time India is a demanding environment that poses numerous challenges to the newcomer. Especially, the demand for a local presence is not to be underestimated.

The concept "Own Man In India" (OMII) provides your company with an effective and relatively low-cost start-up. The office is also able to provide the member companies with market reports, partner search, and business plans, so as to uncover the market conditions relevant to your company.

India is experiencing a steady economic growth of 8 % per year. In 2040 India will be the world’s third largest economy after China and the USA. Since the millennium India’s import has grown with 250 % with an increasing interest for western products. 45 % of the Indian population are under 25 years old, which is a great potential for future sales. The Indian labour force is well educated and the level of costs is only 1/3 in costs compared to an English-speaking employee in China.

At present Denmark’s involvement in India is alarmingly low. The export to India is lower than the export to the Faroe Islands, which is due to the long distance, but also due to difficult terms of business for especially medium-sized Danish enterprises when they wish to start up at the Indian market.

The biggest challenges are widespread corruption, bureaucracy, obscure tax laws, the lack of assistance to foreign companies in connection with start-up and poor infrastructure. Furthermore there is a different work culture which requires more follow-up and control than Danish companies are used to.

The office in Mumbai provides qualified counselling to members of DI about export, setting-up production, sourcing, local recruitment, management of culture differences etc.
