The Indian economy has returned to high growth. With a rapidly growing middle class counting several hundred millions, India provides fantastic market opportunities for Danish exporters and thus for Danish economic growth.

Without a free trade agreement between the European Union and India, there are, however, still many barriers that prevent European companies from utilising the full potential of the Indian market.

At a summit in Delhi last week, the EU and India continued negotiations on a free trade agreement that will allow European companies to take full advantage of the enormous Indian market potential.

“The EU and India have been discussing a free trade agreement since 2007. They are very difficult negotiations, but the benefits for Europe are so obvious that it is about time there was a real opening in the talks,” says DI Consultant Joakim Larsen.

He says that Danish goods exports to India are still modest despite the country’s high economic growth and interesting market potential.
